A major change rolled into the Tamworth car industry this month, as the city's largest dealership expanded even further.
Woodley's has been a staple of the Tamworth landscape since 1919, and fourth generation director Mark Woodley is excited about the recent developments.
On May 1, Woodley's officially took over the car brands of Mercedes Benz and Subaru from fellow family owned business Peel Valley Motors.
While Woodley's bought the business, they will also temporarily take over on the ground at the Gunnedah Rd dealership, until a new addition to the dealership can be built on the corner of Marius and Hill St, bringing the sprawling business to ten brands.
The new building will encompass three showrooms and a large workshop in a "state-of-the-art facility."
Change over: Libby Khan and Steve John recently handed the keys to their dealership over to Mark Woodley and John Riolo.
"It is a privilege to have the number one vehicle brand in the world (Mercedes)," Mr Woodley said.
"It is a tremendous addition to our dealership, and we are also extremely pleased that the majority of all existing staff have made the move.
"We are up to 105 staff now – it is a very exciting time for the business."
Peel Valley Group chief Steve John said that it was the perfect result for the business, as they look to focus solely on farm equipment.
Peel Valley Machinery encompasses four dealerships across the region, including the space next door to Peel Valley Motors, which they will expand back into once the Woodley's showroom build is complete.
"A little while ago we decided that if the opportunity ever arose to exit the car industry we would do it and concentrate on machinery," Mr John said.
"We see a very bright future for agriculture and transport in Australia, and have been delighted with this outcome.
"Woodley's is a local family owned business like us, who took on nearly all the staff.
"We are confident these two great brands will thrive under their stewardship."
Woodley's expect the new showroom to be completed in the next 12 to 18 months.
